We've made many different types of signs for Supercuts including interior and exterior signs, but the most iconic sign we've made multiple times is the red Supercuts logo sign. There was another Supercuts opening in Renaissance Marketplace, an outdoor shopping mall in Rialto, California, and we were contacted to help them out with their exterior signage. This blog will be focusing on the storefront sign we made. The style of the sign we make for a Supercuts location is mostly dependent on the landlord sign criteria. Most shopping centers will have a sign program that we need to adhere to to make sure that the landlord gives their approval on the sign. The landlord's approval is necessary for the sign permit application. This shopping center's sign criteria called out channel letter signs with acrylic sign faces that are internally illuminated so we made a front-lit channel letter sign. A front-lit channel letter sign is a fabricated metal letter. The sides are made from formed aluminum and the backs are routed aluminum. The returns and the back are welded together and LEDs are installed inside. We used red LEDs as opposed to standard white LEDs to intensify the red color that would be seen at nighttime. For the faces, we used a standard red acrylic. There are many different ways to illuminate colors when making a front-lit channel letter sign, but our preferred way is to use pre-colored translucent acrylic. Acrylic comes pre-pigmented in standard colors such as red, white, blue, etc. These pre-colored acrylics outlive pre-colored translucent vinyl and last much longer than digital prints. However, using a pre-colored acrylic is only appropriate if the client is okay with a standard color. Pre-colored vinyl has more color options, but if a client wants a specific color or a special pattern or gradient, we would need to digitally print it. Also, if the artwork involves a lot of different colors, it would be more cost efficient to digitally print it rather than purchasing all of those different vinyl colors.
