Acrylic letters are one of the most common dimensional letters that we make for our clients. We can use acrylic dimensional letters for many different signs, from smaller lobby signs to larger exterior signs. Our existing client, Hustler Hollywood, was looking for a simple way to identify their warehouse in Ontario so we made them an exterior acrylic dimensional letter sign. You can see from the photos that these letters are thinner than the address numbers. Many times, address numbers are made from foam because it is an inexpensive way to get thick letters. We stay away from foam dimensional letters for exterior signs because they do not hold up well outdoors unless we use a very high density which can get more and more expensive. Acrylic is usually our go-to because it is much more durable and high-end. We usually use 1/2" thick acrylic for exterior dimensional letters as we did for this sign. We offer acrylic dimensional letters as thick as 1 1/2" but those are pretty expensive and uncommon for a client to request. If a client is looking for a thick, non-dimensional letter sign, we usually just switch to non-illuminated channel letters. Instead of making flat-cut letters, we create hollow, metal letters so we can go a few inches deep. Hustler didn't care to have deep letters but if they did and they wanted the same look, we would have made them non-illuminated reverse channel letters that were painted black. The black acrylic contrasts well against the building but is a neutral color so it's not too flashy. One of the standard colors that we can get acrylic in is black. If we don't add custom paint to the sign, it can reduce the production time to a couple weeks so if you're looking for a quicker turnaround time, going with a standard color may be a good option.
