We were contacted by Kilter, a design firm located in Pasadena, California, who was looking for a sign company to manufacture and install a new sign for one of their clients. The client, Primuth, Driskell & Terzian, LLP, is an estate planning attorney office that is also in Pasadena, California. Kilter designed a logo sign for their reception desk and sent the designs over to us for manufacturing.
This is a custom painted acrylic dimensional letter sign. The reason we custom painted the sign is because the client called out a specific PMS color that they wanted to use to match the reception desk. Acrylic does come in a few standard colors, but if the client is asking for a specific color, we usually paint it as long as it’s just a solid color. In an instance where one piece of acrylic would need multiple colors, or the logo has a pattern or gradient, we can use a digital print. The print only covers the face so we can paint the sides of the letters to match the face, but we can only do one solid color.
The reason we used acrylic is because it is a high-end substrate choice compared to foam or other plastics, and because it’s fairly lightweight as long as it’s not too thick or large. The acrylic that we used for this sign was 3/8″ thick. For example, 3/8″ thick metal letters would be heavier than the letters we used for this sign. Most of the time, this is not something that is too big of a deal because we can stud mount heavier letters, but in this case, the sign was going to be installed onto a desk so we were using foam tape for installation and we weren’t going to drill into the desk.
