We had a church in Westminster, CA ask us to help them with new banners and a better system to display them. First Baptist Church West or FBCWest, had existing banners in front of their church that had been placed there to advertise their Sunday services. The banners were tattered and held up by wooden stakes and string, which caused them to bow and wrinkle and flap in the wind. In their current state, passersby could not understand their message. Additionally, the colors of the banners could have been more appealing, and the printed message larger.
As we spoke with the Church they helped us understand the message they wanted to display on newly designed banners. They had shared the church properties previously with a Vietnamese church and a Japanese church, and were in a town with a large Vietnamese population. The Vietnamese and Japanese churches no longer share the facilities, and FBCWest wanted to communicate that they are a very diverse congregation so all would feel welcome. Additionally they wanted the specific times for Sunday services displayed on the banners. Finally, they needed a strong frame system to hold the 12’ wide banners taught so they could easily read by passing pedestrians and motorists.
We sourced some banner frames that would accommodate the size banner we needed, and they also had the ability to accommodate concrete footings, but allow the frames to be removed from the footings. We installed them with concrete footings and ensured they were level and secure. The two frames were positioned as two sides of a triangle for maximum visibility of the banners.
Our design for the actual banners took the churches wishes into consideration. We used a background with high resolution pictures of two diverse groups of smiling “parishioners”, one on each side of the printed message. The printed message in the center of the banners welcomed passersby to the Sunday services and highlighted the service times and name of the Pastor.
The banners were hung tightly across the banner frames and are attention grabbing advertisements for the FBCWest church’s Sunday services. Our customer was extremely pleased with the design and the finished product (see attached before and after pictures). We expect to be doing more sign projects for FBCWest in the near future.
