Boise, ID – Coroplast and Its Importance in Custom Sign Making | Sign Shop News

SYNOPSIS: This article covers a popular sign-making material, Coroplast. This includes what it is and how it is manufactured. We also discuss the types of signs made with this substrate and benefits it offers.

How Coroplast is Produced and Making Signs from it

BY: ,
Coroplast is a popular substrate (material) for custom sign-making. It is fabricated from high-quality plastics, which makes it durable and weather resistant. Coroplast is also lightweight and easy to work with, which makes it a favorite among sign makers. In addition, signs made from Coroplast are very affordable and an attractive option for businesses on a budget. What is Coroplast? Coroplast is a brand name for corrugated plastic. It is made from three layers of polypropylene plastic joined together by welds, glues, or adhesives. In between these two sheets of plastic is a layer of fluted material which gives the substrate its strength and rigidity. Once the three layers are joined together, they are passed through a series of rollers pressing the material into its final shape. What are the Benefits of Coroplast? There are many benefits to using Coroplast for custom signs. As mentioned, it is very affordable. And because it is made from high-quality plastics, it is exceptionally durable. Signs made from Coroplast do not fade in the sun or crack in cold weather. In addition, it is easy to work with and can be cut, drilled, and shaped. Also, the corrugated design makes it light weight and easier to transport than other types of sign substrates. How is a Sign Made from Coroplast? Most signs are made from Coroplast by printing directly onto the substrate. This is done with a variety of methods, including screen printing, digital printing, and UV-curable inks. Once the design is printed onto the Coroplast, it is then cut to shape and finished with a protective laminate. This laminate helps to protect the sign from UV rays, scratching, and other wear and tear. Types of Signs Made with Coroplast
  • Yard signs are small portable signs made by adding an H-shaped wireframe to a Coroplast sign, so the sign can be stuck into dirt or grass. They are typically made from 4mm or 6mm Coroplast. These signs are used for temporary advertising, such as political campaigns and real estate listings.
  • A-frame signs are another type of sign often made from Coroplast. They are made of two panels of Coroplast which are hinged together. These signs are used for portable indoor and outdoor displays in front of retail shops, restaurants, and other businesses.
  • Posters can also be made from Coroplast. These are typically made from 6mm or 10mm Coroplast which gives the poster an extra layer of durability to guarantee they last. They are hung in store windows and on walls to promote sales, products, and events.
