Choosing the Material (Substrate)
The first step in any sign-making project is to choose the substrate. We recommend aluminum, fiberglass, and Dibond for most construction sign applications.
- Aluminum signs start as a sheet of the material, which is cut to size and finished with the chosen design.
- Fiberglass signs are built by spraying a mold with a glass and resin mixture and then curing it in an oven.
- Dibond signs are made by bonding two sheets of aluminum together with a solid polyethylene core.
Cutting to Shape
After choosing the substrate, we cut the sign to size. For construction signs, this is usually done with a CNC router. A CNC router is a computer-controlled cutting machine which makes precise cuts into any type of commercial substrate. This machine is specifically designed for cutting large pieces of material quickly and accurately.
Finishing
After the sign is cut, we move on to the finishing process. This is when we add graphics and text to the sign. For construction signs, we typically use vinyl decals or print graphics directly onto the substrate. These methods allow us to create any design in any color and size.
Installation
Once the sign is complete, it is ready for installation. Most construction site signs are mounted to a post or a wall on the construction site.
