Most AC unit issues can be traced back to one of a few key components of their operation. When someone has an issue, our team members can typically diagnose and repair it quickly. In this article, we will discuss some of the more common AC issues, how to detect them and how we can help when they arise.
Refrigerant Leak
Refrigerant, also referred to as freon, is the chemical which exists in the AC system to produce cool air. This chemical is injected into the system when it’s installed and when the unit is working properly, it keeps the circulated air at your desired temperature in your home. When refrigerant leaks, the unit has to work harder to cool the air. When enough freon leaks out, the unit can begin to ice-up and eventually stop producing cool air. If your air is on but your vents are blowing warm air, check the lines connecting your unit to your home. If ice is present, you likely have a refrigerant leak. In this case, turn your system off and contact us as soon as possible. We can identify the source of the leak, repair it and add new freon to get you back up and running.
Condensation Line Clogged
When your AC unit leaks water, it can cause major issues. From drywall damage to potential mold issues, water leaks are never a good thing, and on occasion an AC unit can leak. This occurs when the line which removes condensation becomes clogged with dust, dirt or other debris. Water builds up and can eventually escape the drip pan, causing leaks. Many AC units have an automatic shut-off switch to keep this from happening, so if your unit won’t come on this could be the issue. If you notice water near your air handler or your unit keeps cutting off, our team can clean the line out and ensure the water has the chance to safely exit your home as intended.
Sensor/Electrical Issues
AC units have complex electrical parts, and when these parts fail it can cause a number of issues. If you’re experiencing inefficient cooling, random starts and stops or other issues, let us come check out the system and its components. If an electrical component or sensor needs to be replaced, we can typically handle this quickly.
