What The Piering Installation Process Looks Like

The-Professional-Piering-Process-For-Foundation-RepairWe are here today to tell you that piering installation is the most efficient type of foundation repair method, particularly for slab foundations. This technique was specifically developed to accommodate the abundant expansive clay soils found in the Oklahoma and North Texas areas. During a foundation repair, these piers may be installed in a specific process that is worth examining to learn more about how your home could benefit. The installation process begins with excavation, best done with industrial equipment. Next, the pier shafts are drilled into the ground and concreted into place. Finally, the top cap is attached, providing a stable and secure connection between the pier and the foundation. One of the benefits of using steel pilings of superior strength is that they are able to effectively counteract the uplift and settling of foundations caused by expansive clay soils. They also provide a permanent solution to certain foundation issues without the need for future repairs! Additionally, the use of piering installation is a cost-effective solution, as the installation process is relatively quick and minimizes excavation and demolition work. This results in a lower cost compared to other foundation repair methods, making it an attractive option for homeowners. It's important to note that the success of foundation repair using pilings depends on a professional installation. Be sure to choose a reputable foundation repair contractor (like us here at PIERMAN Foundation Repair!) who is knowledgeable about such methods and has a proven track record of successful installations.

The Piering Installation Process

Once installing the pilings, the first step in the foundation repair process involves digging a hole for entry. This hole is usually located around four or five feet below the ground level, and it extends under the grade beam, which is the structural component that supports the foundation of a building. By digging the hole to this depth, the installation of the steel pilings will be more secure and effective. Next, once the hole is dug and the grade beam has been exposed, a pre-formed concrete cylinder is strategically positioned at the bottom of the excavation site, directly under the grade beam. To start the process, a hydraulic ram is placed between the bottom of the grade beam and the top of the concrete cylinder. The ram is then activated, exerting pressure on the cylinder and pressing it into the soil. This process is repeated by adding additional cylinders and applying pressure with the hydraulic ram until the point of refusal is reached, meaning the force required to press the pilings further into the soil is greater than the force needed to lift the house. Finally, to complete the piering installation, the filled holes will be leveled, smoothed, and sealed. The end result is a sturdy, reinforced foundation that will provide stability to the structure and protect it from future settling or sinking. In addition, the use of steel pilings ensures that the foundation is able to withstand the expansive clay soils of the Oklahoma and North Texas areas and resist any future movement or settling. With proper installation and maintenance, steel pilings can offer a long-lasting solution to your foundation problems.
