Recently, we received a call from a homeowner in Plains, VA who was looking for a company that could provide a high quality window tinting solution. They’re located out in horse country, with picturesque views all around them. But with their large windows came problems with heat and glare.
The Problems:
- They have a beautiful eastern view through a large window that gets intense sun all throughout the morning up until about noon.
- They have four skylights and two more South facing windows, which add to the overall heat buildup, glare and UV damage throughout the day.
Besides too much heat and glare, UV damage is also a big problem, as it affects you as well as your furniture, artwork and other interior home furnishings. Our customers needed a way to protect their home furnishings, as well as maintain a comfortable environment throughout the day. While some typical drapes or blinds would have effectively blocked out the sun, they were not an option for this homeowner. They wanted to make sure to take advantage of their scenic views with as little visual obstruction as possible.
The Solution:
We applied Panorama Slate 40 window tinting film to the lower eye level glass and Panorama Slate 20 window tinting film to the upper glass and skylights. You can see an example in the images above and below. The Panorama Slate films reject approximately 60% of the heat entering the room, 60% of the glare and 99.9% of the UV rays .
We also installed 11% transparent retractable solar shades to the eastern lower levels for use in the morning when the sun is most intense. The transparent shade maintains the lovely view, yet provides the necessary reduction in glare to make the room comfortable for morning use without having to wear sunglasses. After the morning sun is gone, the shades can easily be retracted and the window film keeps the room comfortable throughout the rest of the day.
