Many of you may know the Purple People Eater as the song that made Sheb Wooley famous in 1958….others may attach the handle to the defensive squad of the Minnesota Vikings in the NFL. As of last week, a slightly lesser known but more stylish version, has made its appearance on the campus of California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, California….this time as the mobile eatery for the Kingsmen (guys), Regals (gals) and their family and friends. The formerly somewhat bland white trailer is now decked out in the official school colors of purple and yellow.
Over 600 square feet of laminated vinyl was used to cover the sides, front, and rear end of the trailer.The printing and laminating of the vinyl took over 10 hours, and two installers spent a total of 30 hours over two days to apply the vinyl to the trailer.One of the installers, John King, is a 20+ year veteran of the sign industry and has been wrapping vehicles in both Australia and the U.S. for over 10 years.
The result is a dynamic example of the power of vehicle wraps as a marketing messenger. The eatery, when not making appearances for special events, is regularly parked adjacent to Overton Hall, across from the Zimmerman Music Studios on the Cal Lu campus.
