For some folks, learning how to use and master a rifle can be a bit more challenging. Between differing in how they’re handled, their additional controls, and their longer barrel and body when compared to other firearms, many find shooting a rifle for the first time to be intimidating.
With a skilled firearm instructor from C2 Tactical, you too can become well-versed in using a rifle. If you’re curious about how you’ll be guided through rifle classes, here’s a short rundown of what to expect:
Firearm Safety Overview
If you’re brand new to rifles, or even firearms in general, don’t worry; you won’t be operating a gun immediately. When taking a rifle course, an overview of firearm safety will be taught before anything else.
When learning about firearm safety, students will become familiar with safe muzzle awareness, proper trigger placement, remaining aware of people and situations around them, and how to properly pick up and put down a firearm.
Rifle Orientation
As the rifle course slowly advances, participants will learn how to recognize the different components of the rifle itself. Rifle orientation is important, as it can help make the firearm feel less intimidating. This knowledge can also help students feel more confident in safely operating the weapon when it comes time to do so.
When learning rifle orientation, students will understand the different rifle parts, controls, and terminology. Apart from helping them gain confidence in the firearm, learning the terminology can make it easier for students to ask the instructor questions about the weapon.
Handling Practice
Next, students will typically learn how to safely and accurately engage in the physical aspects of handling a rifle. This includes how to securely hold the weapon, where to keep their trigger finger, how to change positions, and how to load and unload the rifle.
Learning these basic yet essential handling methods can further help beginners become more familiar with rifles. It can also help them master physical handling skills and have any mistakes corrected before they move onto actually utilizing the gun.
Shooting Fundamentals
Rifle course participants will delve into shooting fundamentals, which have close ties to handling practice. They will become more acquainted with trigger control, proper breathing, sight alignment, grip, and body positioning.
Once they get shooting fundamentals down properly, students will have developed a strong foundation for safe and consistent gun operation before actually shooting the weapon.
Live-Fire Practice
After learning all the necessary fundamentals, terminology, and safety skills involved in understanding and physically handling a rifle, students will undergo physical training under expert supervision.
With live-fire rifle practice, course attendees will get the opportunity to put all of their firearm knowledge and skills into practice. Being closely observed by a trained professional, students will also get live feedback as they aim and shoot, helping them further hone their rifle skills.
