At C2 Tactical in Chandler, AZ, we help new shooters with handgun training through a structured program focusing on firearm safety, building confidence, and steady skill development. For many beginners, a handgun class might feel a little overwhelming at first. To address this, we break our shooting classes down into a progression to help beginners build skills step by step with repetition, practical range time, and positive feedback.

Most of our first-time students start out with our Introduction to Handguns course, also known as Pistol 100. This is a four-hour class where beginners learn important firearm safety practices and handgun fundamentals. It’s a great starting point for people with little or no prior firearms experience.

We make sure to cover universal firearm safety rules, as well as an in-depth overview of handgun types, ammunition basics, and safe storage best practices. Our expert instructors teach proper methods for checking a firearm’s condition, safely loading and unloading magazines, and important gun range rules.

The class concludes with a live-fire exercise where students discharge 50 rounds. This helps beginners directly apply the knowledge they learned in the classroom while it’s fresh in their minds.

We encourage students to bring their own handgun with a magazine, range-approved ammunition, safety glasses, and ear protection. If you don’t currently own a firearm, we offer a wide range of rental options. For most beginning shooters, we recommend starting with a .22 caliber handgun for comfort and control.

Once a student feels comfortable handling a firearm safely, we recommend stepping up to our Basic Handgun or Pistol 200 course. This four-hour class focuses on marksmanship and shooting consistency. Students get advanced training on stance, grip, aiming, and trigger press techniques. This leads to improved shot placement, recoil adjustment, and control.

We also introduce dry-fire exercises using inert Blue Training Guns in a sophisticated simulator to let students get a feel for the experience before live fire begins. This level of individual coaching helps students understand how things like body position, sight alignment, and trigger movement affect accuracy.

As students become more comfortable and consistent, they often transition to our Intermediate Handgun course. Also known as Pistol 300, this class focuses on advanced fundamentals like recoil management, trigger reset awareness, and follow-up shot control. This helps them maintain accuracy while delivering multiple controlled shots on target.

Many beginners who complete the introductory handgun coursework, many students choose Defensive Pistol 100, or DP100. This course is a step up in practical defensive handgun training. It was specifically designed to help graduates of Pistol 100 and Pistol 300 apply their new skills in self-defense situations involving deadly force.

Our instructors delve into shot placement, legal considerations of defensive force, developing situational awareness, and shoot-or-no-shoot decision-making. It also gives students the opportunity to practice their stress-based shooting exercises, aiming methods, and follow-up shots. This includes simulator sessions and live-fire practice with practical firearm handling in realistic situations.

At C2 Tactical, we are committed to helping beginners understand firearm safety with confidence, with follow-up classes to let them seamlessly advance their skills.
