Walther designed the PPQ for use by police and military outfits, civilian personal protection and concealed carry. PPQ stands for Police Pistol Quick Defense (translated from German), and it’s easily recognizable as an effective and well-designed handgun for personal or professional use.
Feedback from law enforcement officers led Walther to offer an option with a 5” barrel in addition to the original design which features a 4” barrel. We tested the 4” model on our range and found it to be a fantastic choice for anyone looking for a personal defense/concealed carry weapon. The PPQ is a useful handgun straight out of the box, but it should be noted it has customization options along the rail, including the ability to add lights, lasers and other accessories.
Each of our team members made mention of the trigger of the PPQ as one of their favorite features. With a straight-back motion, the trigger squeeze offers the ideal amount of resistance and easily allows the shooter to fire multiple rounds quickly and accurately. One of our team members even said it’s the ideal trigger for a handgun.
We also found the PPQ to be comfortable right out of the box. While many people prefer custom backstraps, and you can add your own if you want, Walther nailed the ergonomics with the PPQ and it’s ambidextrous, comfortable in the hand and does not slip easily.
On the range, the gun smoothly fed ammo and was easy to operate, from rapidly changing magazines to dropping the slide, you would be hard pressed to find a smoother weapon. And it’s right in line price-wise with other reputable options, so if you are looking for a reliable, smooth and user-friendly 9MM, give the PPQ serious consideration.
