The Ruger 10/22 was specifically designed to be an affordable first gun for shooters and to stay with them for years. Bill Ruger created this firearm by simplifying the recoil system for lower recoil and adding a clever barrel that allowed for cheaper and easier-to-produce materials.
The Ruger 10/22 lives up to its origins as an affordable, reliable, and accurate semi-automatic rifle that’s great for shooters of all levels. Check out what we have to say about this model below!
Exceptionally Reliable
The Ruger 10/22 is made to last a lifetime. Despite it having a low-powered ammunition match, there is very little trouble, misfires, or issues to be found with this rifle. Essentially as long as you keep your maintenance and cleaning routines consistent from time to time, this firearm is phenomenally reliable.
However, there is a caveat to this reliability. We highly recommend you keep the rifle with the Ruger factory magazines. If you feed it aftermarket ammunition it may cause you more trouble than you are looking for.
Accurate Out of the Box
Even though the 22LR is the most accurate of the cartridges available on the market, the 10/22 rifle is fairly accurate right out of the box. The ergonomics are simple to understand and don’t require constant adjustment before finding the right shots for your grip.
The 10/22 is accurate to about 75 yards away. After that, it simply becomes too much to expect out of a rifle as they aren’t made for long-distance shooting. They are great companions to use for hunting in the forest or bird shooting. If these activities are for you then we especially recommend the Sporter or Competition models which are specifically designed to be as accurate as they can be from the get-go.
Versatile Model
The final advantage that the Ruger 10/22 carbine offers is the versatility of the model. There are so many different model varieties available and each one can be used for a variety of activities. Whether you’re looking to go backpacking for your yearly hunting trip or are a first-time shooter, a carbine model will do you well for years at an affordable cost.
In addition, if there isn’t a specific model that works for your needs, the aftermarket of accessories, add-ons, and extras that you can find for the 10/22 is excessive. It is super easy to customize your rifle to your shooting needs without breaking the bank.
Overall Thoughts
The Ruger 10/22 is an amazing firearm for any type of shooter. The model is simple to understand for first-time shooters, and accurate enough for seasoned hunters or competitors. The reliability and durability you get from this firearm match the price point it comes at, and what you see isn’t always what you get with the massive amounts of aftermarket purchases that can help customize a Ruger 10/22.
