Lynnwood WA - Part 3: Magnetic Signs for Business Vehicles | Signage News

SYNOPSIS: Magnetic Vehicle Signs, part 3; How do I store my Magnetic Sign?
BY: ,
This blog series is the third of a four part series on the subject of Magnetic Signs: How do I properly store my Magnetic Sign? In reality, properly storing your magnetic sign can play an important role in how it performs for you when on the road. Two fundamental options exist: flat or rolled. If you roll, selecting the proper roll orientation AND direction is important if you want your magnetic sign to perform optimally.   Storing your magnetic sign flat seems like a the logical solution, but a properly rolled magnetic sign will help it better “stick” to your vehicle surface. Why should I Roll my Magnetic Sign for Storage? First, a properly rolled sign exposes, or orients the surface ART to the outside of the roll face. An incorrectly rolled magnetic sign will show NO art on any portion of the roll; all you will see is the dark backside. What Direction do I roll My Magnetic Sign? The following principles can be applied to any magnetic sign. Pay attention to the edge that faces the vehicle front (forward edge) and the edge that faces to the vehicle rear (aft edge).  Orient the magnetic sign so that when rolling the art side faces outward. Start the roll direction with the aft edge. When the roll is complete the forward edge is fully exposed. Use velcro tape material to hold the roll. A starting roll diameter of no less than 3 inches is good practice. What do I gain from a properly rolled sign? (Drum roll please….) Over time in storage the magnetic material relaxes to the shape of the roll. Unrolling will take on a curved surface creating internal tension when placed on a flat surface. It turns out that you want to have some tension in the magnetic sign material as this will help pull the edges inward towards the vehicle surface. In effect this helps the sign “stick” better at the forward and aft edges where the stiction needs to be. What about using a FLAT stored sign? Using a flat, or non-tensioned sign is better than using an incorrectly rolled sign. In this case, there is no additional tension being drawn to the critical edges. You are left to the magnetic energy present in the system. Summary If you are looking to brand your vehicle through the benefit of magnetic signs, then give Manifest Sign a call.
