Business Expert Offers Time Management Training
If you’re a manager, executive or business owner, it can likely seem like you are constantly being pulled in different directions and there aren’t enough hours in your day. As a leader, you are looked to be there in times of trouble or confusion, to provide big picture analysis and still perform your normal tasks. On top of everything, many people still want to have an active social life and/or be there for family time as well.
Trying to juggle these responsibilities and perform at a high level, personally and professionally, can be very difficult. This is especially true if you are not using proper time and priority management techniques.
As a business coach in South Carolina, I have worked with companies and individuals representing businesses of all sizes and industries. It’s my role to help these people and companies perform at a high level and ultimately reach their goals.
Each of my clients have unique needs, and as a business coach I am typically a long-term partner who provides guidance, assists with planning and strategies and helps people build relevant skills to meet their goals. While all my clients get individualized plans, almost all of them involve some form of time and priority management training.
Because I work with leaders in companies, most of them have the common struggle of being pressed for time. These are usually high-stress, high-stakes roles where decisions are important, and people rely on my clients to make their businesses run.
When discussing time management, there are a few skills/habits to put into practice which can make all the difference in having time to thrive and letting important tasks fall by the wayside.
The first thing I discuss with any client who is having time management issues is their goals. I want to learn everything I can about a client, personally and professionally, and what their goals are. Once you know your goals, you should take on tasks and give priority to the things which advance those goals. Any other item on your schedule can be moved, but the ones which help pursue your goals should be heavily weighted, and you should understand these priorities are ever changing.
People in leadership roles must also be effective delegators. If you try to do every bit of the work yourself, you will never get it done and you will miss important items. A person who can clearly delegate tasks to competent team members is free to pursue the important items on their list.
Part of my training also involves a discussion of the resources which are available to help a person manage their workload and time. Whether it’s a scheduling app, a way to automate some of your job duties or a technological innovation, working smarter is an ideal way to save time.
We cover goal setting, effective delegation and selecting the right resources in my training sessions and allow people to take their time back for important tasks.
