Adding coolant every few weeks is not normal maintenance. If the reservoir keeps dropping, the cooling system is losing fluid somewhere.
GM recommends checking cooling system connections and hoses at the required intervals. For the 2017 Sierra 1500, GMC specifies DEX-COOL coolant and warns improper mixtures may contribute to overheating or cooling-system damage.

Do Not Wait for Severe Overheating
