Warm Springs, CA — Does Your 2016 Honda Accord Need Suspension Repair?

SYNOPSIS: This article covers the suspension problems 2016 Honda Accord owners run into, how to catch them early, and where to get them checked.

When the 2016 Accord Ride Starts to Feel Off

BY: Arun Coumar, Driven Auto Care of Fremont, CA

You don't usually wake up to a bad suspension. It creeps. The ride gets rougher by degrees and you just live with it. Then you hit a bump one morning and it slams instead of softening, and you think, “Huh, that used to feel fine”. The 2016 Accord is a solid car. Stuff still wears out. Here's what shows up.

Noises Over Bumps

Sound is usually the first tip-off. Clunk over a speed bump. A knock when the tire drops into a pothole on Warm Springs Boulevard. That creak when you swing into a driveway at an angle.

Sway bar links go early on these. They rattle. A light, loose clunk over choppy pavement, and people often mistake it for something trivial. Control arm bushings are the other one. Those knock deeper. Heavier. If a noise started faint and is louder now, that's the part telling on itself.

Soft, Bouncy, Floaty

Struts wear slowly. So slow you don't feel the day-to-day change. Bounce is the giveaway. Shove down hard on one corner and let go. Good strut, the car settles and stops. The worn one keeps bobbing after you let off. Out on the road, it looks like the nose is diving when you brake, or the front end is floating over dips instead of just settling down. Feels like the car wanders a little at freeway speed? Tired struts are often in the mix.

Tires Wearing Funny

Suspension trouble leaves marks on the tires. A part wears, alignment slips, and the tire quits sitting flat on the road. Run your hand across the tread. One edge is smooth, the other is still grippy. That's uneven wear. Then there's cupping, this scalloped dip in the tread, and that one points right at worn struts. Sometimes you can hear it as a hum that climbs with speed.

Pulling and Crooked Steering

The car drifts to one side. Or you're going dead straight, and the wheel sits a few degrees off. Usually, that's alignment or a worn part underneath. A real pothole or a hard curb hit can knock things out in one shot. If a pull showed up right after a hit like that, get it looked at.

How Urgent Is It

Faint clunk over bumps, worth a look, not a fire drill. Steering that pulls hard, a wheel that feels loose, a clunk that turned into a bang. Get it in. Anything messing with how the car steers or stops jumps the line.

Worn suspension isn't a comfort thing only. It changes how the car behaves in a panic stop or a fast swerve. And it chews through tires the whole time you put it off.

What We Look At

When a 2016 Accord rolls in, it goes up on the lift and we get our hands on the moving parts. Sway bar links. Bushings. Ball joints. We push and pull each one, looking for play. Check the strut bodies for leaks. Read the tire wear, because the tires usually tell the story before anything else does.

Then we lay it out. What's worn, what holds for now, what shouldn't. Straight answer. No padding the list with parts you don't need.

Let Us Take a Look

If your 2016 Honda Accord clunks, bounces, or pulls, bring it to Driven Auto Care of Fremont, CA. We'll put it on the lift, find what's worn, and tell you straight what it needs. Call to book a suspension inspection.
