Proven Tips to Help Staff Your Medical Clinic
Recruiting specialized talent has always been a challenge, but in today’s competitive labor market it can be very difficult to hire and retain the best employees in a given field. This is especially true for medical clinics, who need to have a staff with unique talents, certifications and availability.
If you are having trouble keeping your facility fully staffed, have been forced to increase pay rates and/or are getting little interest in job postings lately, you are not alone. As a medical clinic, you have competition for your ideal work force and in today’s job market you must differentiate yourself in order to bring in the talent you need.
As a business coach, it’s my role to help companies achieve their goals by lending my corporate expertise to the problem areas of their business. My services are always tailored to meet the needs of my clients, but I can assist with items such as strategic planning, time management, policy creation and more, including recruiting.
In this article, we will cover a few tips which can help you fully staff your local medical clinic. While I make detailed plans for my clients which address their unique needs, the tips listed below should be helpful for any clinic which is struggling to attract and retain top talent.
Be Prepared
Employees have more power in job interviews than ever before. With the rise of online work, numerous jobs available and specialized skills in high demand, be ready for your applicants to interview you just as rigorously as you interview them.
By being proactive and having answers to interviewee’s common questions at hand, presenting yourself professionally and knowing what your competition is offering, you can have a leg up on any other clinic by providing a positive interview experience. You want to be impressive as an employer and give the impression their interview matters.
Look Internally
Hiring from within is typically a good strategy, especially if you have talented people already on your team. If someone performs at a high level and has the willingness to take on more responsibility, it is likely easier to fill an entry level job than a mid-tier position.
Also, you can offer a referral bonus for employees who refer friends to work at your clinic. If you do this, make sure there is a time-based component to receiving the bonus.
Market Effectively
You are likely used to marketing your services as a local medical clinic, but in today’s job market you might have to allocate some of your marketing budget toward advertising jobs as well. Ensuring your posting looks good and is professional before posting on all appropriate websites is a must, but getting creative to get your availability in front of the right people can move the needle in recruiting.
