During the initial health consultation, I have found many patients having a bad experience with chiropractic. I handle the objections first, before the next step. There are many techniques in chiropractic, I know from experience that chiropractic works. It is scientifically based through research and over 100 years of experience since 1895. It may be the technique did not fit the patient. It is vital to explain what the adjustment will do, and what it will feel like. Most important, it is suppose to relieve pain. That is why the patient is in your clinic.Â
I first find out what it is they experienced, and not to make an excuse for the doctor, but to support that it may cause some pain because it is inflammed, and painful to begin with. I like taking a slow, gentle approach by using stretches, instrument adjusting, using a gentle drop table with stretching. Many patients tell me they experienced a “cracking, sudden movement” with the previous experience, and it causes more pain. It is important to be less heavy handed, and more gentle less forceful is more effective. Once the doctor establishes “trust”, it is much easier to start & build treatments. I usually will demonstrate how I perform the adjustment, and show them it is not like what they have experienced. I can use many other techniques if they seem hesistant with a manual adjustment.Â
The sound you hear with the adjustment like a “crack” is simply releasing pockets of pressure between the joints. When spinal joints are out of alignment or not moving properly, this can affect the spinal nerves & discs between vertebrae. It can irritate delicate nerves. Symptoms, including pain, are usually the result. Nerve signals are sent from the brain to the muscles to stabilize and protect the area. You may feel stiff, sore, or tired. Inflammation & pressure continues to build. Correcting this misalignment, called subluxation, is the goal. The adjustment corrects the misaligned vertebrae and removes the pressure onto the nerve and disc. You will hear a “click” not a crack, indicating the repositioning & pressure release between the joints of the vertebrae. If left uncorrected, it has been researched to cause osteoarthritis, degeneration of the spinal joints. Waste products build within the joint, and lead to degeneration of the disc & spinal joints.  Movement or adjustments bring nutrition to the joint. The disc needs synovial fluid to keep the area lubricated and disc height for the nerves and discs.Â
I use advance technology utilizing gentle & effective neuromechanical adjusting instrument, and motion adjusting table using low force drops. You may read more adjusting techniques at my website: www.sanleandrochiropractor.com. Call for an appointment to receive a Complimentary Health Consultation & adjusting demonstration!!!
