What To Do When Your House Floods- Portland, Salem, Tigard OR
Posted in: Industry News
A flood is defined as “cover or submerge (a place or area) with water”.
Whether your home has been flooded due to “acts of God”, falling water, ground water, a malfunction with an appliance, or a burst pipe there are some simple steps to take to ensure your home and family are safe and to ease the aftermath.
-If you have had to leave your home due to the flood inspect the structure and foundation for cracks, holes and warping before reentering the home.
-Contact utility companies if you suspect damage to water, gas, electric, and sewer lines and do not enter the home until it is determined it is safe.
-Call your insurance company. They will direct you on whether or not to wait for an adjuster to come out and inspect the property before you can start making repairs. Be sure to document all damage and conversations you have with them during the entire process.
-Protect yourself. Water may be contaminated by sewage or household chemicals. Wear protective gloves and clothing when dealing with water damaged possessions.
