You’ve driven through traffic, baked a little in the sun, walked from the parking lot, and now you’re ready to shoot. Except you forgot your ear protection. Happens to everyone once. After that, you start keeping a checklist. Packing the right gear saves time, keeps you safe, and makes your day go smoother from start to finish.
Start With Safety Gear
No matter where you shoot, inside or out, safety gear comes first. Bring:
- Eye protection: Clear lenses work great indoors. If you’re shooting outside, go tinted. Keeps brass, dust, and glare out of your way.
- Ear protection: The sound indoors bounces off the walls. You’ll want muffs or plugs, maybe both if you’re sensitive to noise.
- Hat: Keeps the sun off your face and brass out of your collar.
Spend a few extra bucks on safety gear that fits right. You’ll notice the difference when you’re an hour in and still comfortable.
Pack Your Firearm And Ammo Right
Unload before you leave home, and check again before you get to the range. Always. Keep it locked in a case and separate from your ammo while you travel. Bring the right caliber and a few extra rounds in case you get on a roll. A lot of folks forget that last part, and you’ll always want more once you get going.
Bring A Quick Cleaning Kit
Arizona dust finds its way into everything. A simple cleaning kit keeps your firearm in shape between sessions. Throw in a bore brush, some patches, oil, and a rag. If you shoot outdoors, you’ll be glad you did. A quick wipe keeps sand and carbon from sticking where it shouldn’t.
Target Gear And Tools
C2 Tactical has plenty of targets, but bringing your own can save time if you have a favorite. Grab some tape, a marker, maybe a stapler. You can track your progress, make notes, and change out targets fast. Some shooters like to bring small sticky targets to throw up for quick drills, an easy way to switch things up.
Stay Comfortable
Bring water, maybe two bottles. A snack helps too, something easy like jerky or trail mix. Wipe your hands often, and if you sweat a lot, pack a towel or an extra shirt. It’s tough to focus when your grip’s slick or you’re overheating.
Keep The Paperwork Handy
You’ll need your ID, membership card, and any permits. It’s boring stuff, but having it ready saves time. A small notebook’s useful too. You can jot down your groupings, ammo notes, or anything you want to work on next time.
Organize Your Bag
Every shooter eventually figures out their own setup. Keep safety gear in one section, cleaning supplies in another, and ammo where you can grab it fast. Zip bags or pouches help keep the small stuff from disappearing into the bottom.
Extras You’ll Be Glad You Packed
A few things you don’t think about until you need them:
- Spare batteries for optics or hearing gear
- Flashlight
- Multi-tool or pocket knife
- Band-aids and wipes
- Tape measure for distances
These don’t take up much space but come in handy more often than you’d think.
