To some of the residents of Oakville it is the landmark Oakville Club. To others, it's the anonymous grey building as you cross the bridge on Lakeshore Road into downtown Oakville. As a longtime resident of Oakville I have to admit that I was in the later group until recently! Many times as I crossed the bridge towards Navy Street heading into downtown Oakville I was not sure what that grey building was. I must not have been alone as earlier this year I was approached by the General Manager of the facility to add some identification to the side of the building. What we ended up doing was twofold. Firstly, we fabricated the name The Oakville Club in large (roughly 12") aluminum letters . Secondly, we added, below the letters, a sandblasted sign in Western Red Cedar with the facility's logo. Fabricated letters are often the perfect solution to providing effective building identification. Often these letters are made from acrylic (of various thicknesses) or from metals ( aluminum, brass, bronze or stainless steel). The sandblasted component was a perfect complement to the letters and helped maintain the historic look and feel of the facility. Other than the fact that the boats have been pulled up for storage which affects the sight line a little, there is no no mistaking that the 'grey building as you cross the bridge' is none other than the historic Oakville Club.
