My name is Aaron Hichman with Brignole and Ghiri Insurance. We are a full line Property and Casualty Insurance Agency based out of Oakland, California, since 1925.
Today I want to talk about a new insurance carrier we just received a direct appointment with, Travelers. Getting a direct appointment with an insurance company is not an easy thing to do. The insurance company reviews our agency to ensure that we are a fit for them.
Travelers have many benefits, and the most important is they will write in the Oakland Hills and other places throughout the East Bay where other insurance companies will not. Another advantage with Travelers is we can customize coverages giving our customers a better homeowner policy.
Today I want to show you how we can customize a Travelers homeowners policy with some basic coverages. Please follow my cursor. The first coverage here is Coverage A, Dwelling Limit. The Dwelling Limit is the amount an insurance company will pay to rebuild the home. Insurance companies require a cost estimator showing the home's replacement cost and making sure the house is adequately covered. Replacement cost is not market value; it is the cost to rebuild your home if a loss has occurred. The second coverage on a homeowners policy is coverage B, Other Structures. Examples of Other Structures are detached garages, sheds, guests house, pools and jacuzzies, fences, driveways, patios, and other structures detached from the home. Typically insurance companies will give you a 10% limit of your dwelling for Other Structures. With Travelers, we can customize Other Structures with a minimum of 1% and a maximum of 100% of Coverage A. For example, let's say that your replacement cost on your home is a million-dollar limit. Typically insurance companies will only give you 10% of the million for Other Structures, but we can get 1% or 100% with Travelers. Same with coverage C, Personal Property, you can have a minimum of 25% or 100% of Coverage A. Typically, other insurance carriers give you 50%. Let's take the same example of a million-dollar limit on your home; insurance companies typically give you 500,000 personal property. What if you don't want 500,000? Travelers can customize a homeowner policy to 250,000 Personal Property, 25% of Coverage A, and reduce the premium.
Coverage D, Loss of Use Coverage, can also be customized with a Travelers homeowners policy. Loss of Use Coverage is when you need to live elsewhere while your home is being repaired, like a hotel room. Reminder, a homeowners policy will not trigger unless there is a covered peril like a fire. Let's say that you had a fire and need to live somewhere else while your home was being repaired. Coverage D, Loss of Use, is where you would find coverage on a homeowners policy. Loss of Use is an essential coverage, and with a Travelers homeowners policy, you can customize with a minimum of 20% up to the maximum of 100% of your dwelling limit. Typically insurance companies will give you 20% of your dwelling limit.
Next is coverage E, Personal Liability coverage. A Travelers homeowners policy will go up to a million dollars of liability, which is excellent. We see more and more insurance companies going up to a million-dollars of personal liability. Still, some insurance carriers only go to 500,000, which means you would need to purchase an umbrella policy to get that million-dollar level. Travelers, you can buy a hundred thousand, three hundred thousand, five hundred thousand, and a million-dollars of personal liability coverage. We typically start at three hundred thousand, but most of our customers are at 500,000 of personal liability coverage.
