A few months ago we got a web inquiry from Vedder Holsters, a custom holsters manufacturer in the Mount Dora area. They initially inquired about multiple signs that they would need for their newly renovated office space. Two of those sign needs were custom signs for their conference room and their lobby room. They really were not set on any design but new they wanted a custom rustic steel look. We were amazed at how beautiful their location was and we knew we could do some really unique signs for them which was very exciting! We had done previous work for them in the past so we knew already how they liked to work and what the liked and disliked so we started sending design options their way. We gave them one option that they loved which was staggered wood with metal cutouts mounted on top, it was a little more expensive than what they were wanting to spend. We then designed custom dimensional letters made of raw metal with 1" studs for the lobby and a bigger version with a galvanized finish for the conference room, they loved it! Sometimes when signs are so custom you can go through a lot of trial and error, which we did for these two signs. We had never produced signs that were 100% metal so we had to figure out a way to mount it to the wall since they wanted it to stand off by 1/2". With acrylic or PVC the letters mount very easily since they are light but metal is heavy, as we always do at Visual Signs, we made it happen! After a lot of research and trial and error we ended up inserting each letter 1/2" into the wall and also adding liquid nails to make sure they are secure and added 1/2" spacers which we painted the color of the wall to add the "floating" effect. Vedder Holsters loves their new signs and we do too! It was a lot of hard work but it was so worth it, not only was it exciting but we also learned a new technique that can help us in the future!
