Local Expert Discusses Planning for Dentists
Being a dentist who takes great care of their patients while still running a successful business can be a handful. Many dentists are fantastic at their profession and provide friendly, professional service, but without business acumen their practice could leave growth opportunities on the table and/or fall short of their professional goals.
As a business coach, it’s my role to shore up the business operations side so you can focus on providing great care and we can work together to expand your company’s reach and achieve your overall goals. I have worked with numerous businesses over the years in South Florida, including companies of different industries and sizes.
When I work with my clients, I always tailor a coaching plan to meet their unique needs, goals and vision for their companies. I can provide any number of services depending on the client, including leadership training, policy creation, time management and more.
One area which many clients need assistance in is planning for the success of their company and putting strategies in place to reach their goals. Strategic planning is essential, and the steps below outline the basics of the process I take when planning with any of my clients.
Establish Goals
Goals are essential for any business, and especially so for a business coach. After all, it’s my objective to help you reach your professional goals. Many clients have general goals, and we work to make those more specific and tied to definite, measurable benchmarks which we can work toward. Every decision we make in strategic planning will be viewed in light of the goals we set, so ensuring we are on the same page and I clearly understand the direction you want to take is key. For example, a company with a goal of building long-term success will have different action items than one who wants to scale quickly and sell to outside investors.
SWOT Analysis
Once we know which direction we want to move in, we examine the company internally and externally. This is known as a SWOT analysis, which measures internally (Strengths and Weaknesses) and externally (Opportunities and Threats). Understanding what you do well and can help us market those skills, and knowing your weaknesses gives us an idea of where to improve. Keeping an eye on potential areas for growth or instances which could cause the company to struggle from the outside is also key in this step, we want to be ready to take on opportunities and guard against threats.
Implement and Measure Success
Understanding our strengths and opportunities combined with our company goals allows us to go forward with a strategy to succeed. We can craft a strategy based on these factors and my business experience and put it into practice. The process does not stop there, as we must measure the success of our strategy and make adjustments based on these analyses as needed.
This is a very broad overview of the planning process, but hopefully it gives you a framework of how strategic planning works. If you want to ensure your clinic is headed in the right direction, give me a call or fill out the form on my website to get started today.
