10 Family Activities in Houston That Don’t Break the Bank
Engaging activities? Tuckered out kids? Full pockets? YES please! Here are ways to get your little ones out and about in Houston, without it costing an arm and a leg. Houston has tons of activities you can take advantage of, from crafts, to reading, and outdoor fun. Here are a few that are absolutely free!
1) The Houston Zoo is FREE the first Tuesday of every month. Make sure to arrive early to beat the crowds!
2) The Houston Police department has a horse stable that is home to about forty furry hooved friends. You can bring your own snacks like apples, carrots, or hay to feed them as treats.
3) Attend your local library for story time! Lone Star Community College libraries will have the schedule on their website.
4) Head out to Discovery Green to play on the splash pad, playgrounds, and misting tree. Discovery green has year round events that are free to attend.
5) Visit the Armand Bayou Nature Center the first and third Sunday of the month for “Sundays in Nature”!
6) Looking for a good way to expend some of that kid energy? Have them try their hand at the American Ninja Warrior challenge course at Tom Bass Park, for no cost to you!
7) Houston Parks &Rec offers free tennis programs, swimming lessons, as well as a skateboarding program.
8) Check out Sugar Land Town Square’s “Movies under the Moon”, as well as Pearland Town Square’s summer family concerts.
9) Too hot to play outside? Sugar Creek Baptist church offers a free indoor playground, as does Frolic’s Castle in Memorial City Mall.
10) The Houston Museum District’s Children’s Museum, Museum of Natural Science, Health Museum and Museum of fine arts are FREE every Thursday. Call for details.
