We have been wrapping vehicles for PDI Federated for the past 6 years and most of the vehicles and the designs are pretty much the same. That is what makes this job so much more.
PDI Federated is premium source for auto parts and supplies. They pride themselves on the ability to manage parts and the time it takes for their customers to get those parts. Of course, their delivery vehicles have to be reliable. Given that most of their vehicles run around 20-30,000 miles per year, there is a great opportunity to advertise for their manufacturers. The Ford Escape has become the vehicle of choice for PDI. It allows them good gas mileage and the space to transport most parts. The vehicles are very reliable and run well. But with the current shortage of microchips, when PDI has to replace a vehicle, they have had to take what colors are available. Every vehicle we wrapped during the first 6 years was white. We did Transports, Escapes, NV200’s and a couple more but they were always white. When this one came in, we saw it as an opportunity to expand the canvas. The supplier that was highlighted on this vehicle was a supplier of components and parts for the auto industry. There predominate color is yellow! This is the perfect contrast when it comes to wrapping a vehicle. If you highlight the text with white, you have the perfect color contrast layout. We decided to follow along with the racecar layout that is becoming more popular in the trade. Everyone wants a racecar. The layout for the sides was pretty straightforward with the graphics rising as you moved from the front of the car to the back. What made this really cool was the hood. We used the yellow color to follow the ridge in the hood. We also nested the brand name inside of the ridge on the hood. As you can see, the design really pops.
We used a new premium wrap material that has just started to catch on in the trade. The material features excellent repositionability, which means you can move the material around with exposed adhesive. This is very important to our installers as it takes some time to position the print exactly where it is supposed to be. The laminate is an optically clear overlaminate that protects the colors and adds a layer of protection to the paint. This wrap took the better part of a day to install the graphics and do a complete quality check on the installation.
