One of the great things of being able to order just about anything online is that you can place your order and go about your business not having to wander through the stores. It has freed up time to do the things we enjoy instead of the mundane. The downside of ordering everything online is porch pirates. Some people are making a very lucrative living stealing packages for our porches. This has become an epidemic with some large apartment complexes reporting the loss of almost 30% of all packages. Something had to change.
Our customer decided that they needed to provide their tenants a means to protect their online purchases without turning the apartment complexes into a prison. They decided on purchasing a secure locker system that allows package deliveries to be secure. No more pirates. The system works like this. The delivery company shows up with your package and delivers it to the system. You recieve a text from the system saying that your package has been delivered to locker A23 and your passcode is ABC123. You get home and on your way back to your apartment you stop by the system and punch in the code. Magic happens and one of the doors pops open and there is your package. Nice and safe. The big problem is that these systems are not very attractive. They come in either matte white or platinum grey, that’s it. But that is where Optimum Signs comes in.
We were engaged to help design and install wraps on over 50 systems nationwide. Our customer had most of the design completed and the only work on the design we had to do was customizing the wrap for the exact system. Once the designs were modified, we went to work printing the wraps. We learned early on the correct material and laminate to use for these systems. They are powder coated which presents some interesting challenges most importantly, most adhesives don’t stick to it. We sampled 6 different vinyls prior to printing this job to determine which vinyl would give us the performance we demanded.
Next we leaned on our nationwide installer network to coordinate each install over about a month. We had folks running from southern California to Boston, from Minneapolis to Miami. All are certified installers and carry the proper amount of insurance just in case something happens. The installs came off without a hitch and all looked great.
