One of our repeat customers just updated their parts delivery vehicles and seemed to have forgot that the vans have to be identifiable to their customers before they are granted access to the lots/buildings. Oh oh. So when they called and said they have three vans that need the graphics package we designed for them and they need them yesterday, we went to work.
The van above is a Chevy 3500, one ton van. They use the van to run parts throughout Milwaukee county as they are one of only two parts distributors for Volkswagen and Mazda. These vans see a great deal of mileage with most of the vans putting between 20,000 and 35,000 per year. That's a lot of visibility. The customer wanted the design so that it was both simple, yet very easy to identify. The colors were a part of their brand so we had to make sure we printed the correct colors which wasn't tough. The font was also determined by Hall Imports brand. So far pretty simple. The Hall logo with the grey stripes was originally designed for a dark blue van so the area between the lines was a dark blue. We were not sure if the blue was done as a way to circumvent having to cut out the vinyl between the stripes. We talked to our customer to determine what would be their preferred solution to this. Do they want us to remove the dark blue and add white? What about removing the vinyl between the strips? The customer decided to remove the blue and allow the white vinyl to stay between the lines. It made our job a bit easier and it really didn't affect the look of the logo. We always use premium grade vinyl for vehicle graphics like this so that when the time comes to remove the graphics, they will come off without removing the clear coat or damaging the paint. It is slightly more expensive, but it is the correct way to handle graphics.
Installation was straight forward except we had to lower the location information as it would have landed right on top of the door handle. We would have lost the majority of the letter "P" which would change the readability of the information. By dropping everything, it allowed us to stay above the stone chip protection on the bottom of the side of the van while not having to overlay the door handle. This was definitely the correct way to do this.
