So what do you think of when I say Sedona, Arizona? For me, it's heat. Like cook an egg on the sidewalk hot. It is. That made this install very interesting as we were working in 106 degree heat with a nice breeze. Interesting is what we will call it.
This package locker system was installed by The Ridge as a service for their tenants. When the tenants order something from an online source and it gets delivered, instead of dropping the package off at the customers door, they deliver the package to the locker system. This makes sure that the porch pirates can't swipe their goods.
We started the design process with The Ridge's corporate logo. Our customer wanted to keep this simple but enough color to get peoples attention. This is a pretty simple layout but it is very effective. It communicates the message clearly. Next we had to test a few different vinyls because of the heat. Regular vinyl at 112 degrees gets very gummy and the adhesive loses its punch. We found a vinyl that is made for high heat applications in the manufacturing environment with an adhesive that is stable up to 130 degrees. The only caveat is that the white of the vinyl is a slightly less bright as other vinyls. But because of the intense sun in Sedona, this was actually preferred as it reflected less sunlight.
When it came to install things got interesting. Our normal vinyl has air release which means that as you install it, the air that gets stuck behind the vinyl and creates bubbles, can be pressed out. With the new vinyl there is no air release. We had to get the install perfect from the beginning with no bubbles. Now add the heat that our installer got to deal with and it was fun. With this kind of heat, and our installer living in Wisconsin, he had to pay close attention to hydration. He had to drink 12 oz. of water every 20 minutes. He kept saying that he didn't need to as he wasn't sweating. The catch was that he was sweating and it was evaporating immediately. We decided to use the hinged method of install. We place the printed tile exactly where it goes, then tape the panel in place and hinged the center. This way we are only dealing with half the panel at a time. It also ensures that it doesn't move.
