What do you do when someone mistakes your monument sign for a parking spot? The first thing you should do is to call Optimum Signs. We are the metro Milwaukee areas premium commercial sign company and we are ready to help you.
Imagine the surprise of the property owner when one of his tenants decided to park where the monument sign was! This sign was originally built in 1982 and was built over the top of a wooden sign. The anchor posts and the frame were all wood. Then the company decided to reface the wooden sign with aluminum. This sealed in the wooden frame and protected it from the elements, just not from wayward cars!
We started by accessing the damage to the frame and support structure. It was a mess. The wooden posts that held the sign in place were both split most of the way up into the sign. The frame was also cracked. The good news was that other than straighten the sign and some damage to the one side, the sign looked ok. We also determined that it wasn’t in danger of falling over. We needed to get a new design to the Village as they require architectural approval prior to issuing a sign permit. After about 3 weeks of going back and forth on a design, the property owner decided on the above design. We submitted the design along with a ton of paperwork to the Village for approval. We got it on the first submission.
Next we “blueprinted” the design which means we break it down into the individual components and placed the orders for those parts. A couple of weeks later, after everything finally arrived, we were able to begin building the sign. With a sign like this, we start with an aluminum frame. This sign we used 2″ aluminum tube to carry the weight and provide stability for years to come. Next we added the aluminum skin to the sign and painted it. The “Bradley Place” header we used push through acrylic backed by translucent vinyl. The sign lights up nice and bright, just not harsh. We installed the LED’s throughout the sign while maintaining at least 2″ from the LED’s to the face of the sign. This ensures we don’t have any bright spots and that the light is a soft glow. The lens were all printed on translucent vinyl at 200%. By printing at 200% we make sure that the color of the tenant panels stays true and doesn’t wash out. Everything on this job worked out exactly as planned, except for the stupid power pedestal.
