Milwaukee, WI – Custom 4″ x 4″ Wooden Post and Panel Sign for Heiser Toyota

BY: Scott Kuehn, Optimum Signs

In many cases, municipalities take a good deal of time to issue sign permits for large scale signs. Signs like pylons and monuments sometimes have to work their way through multiple city boards and this can take a good deal of time.  But a business needs to be found by their customers, so what should they do? First, is to work with Optimum Signs. We have multiple solutions and this one is becoming a very popular solution.

In this case, our customer, Heiser Toyota, is planning on adding a very large pylon sign to their property.  Because of the size of the sign, they are having to supply engineering studies and reports on stress loads, wind resistance and even structural tolerances.  Just to be clear, this sign is only going to be 20′ tall.  So what do you do? We decided that they needed something that wouldn’t run afoul of the current sign code but still give the dealership a way to get customers attention.  When we went through the city code, the code referred to mounted signs. Our design isn’t mounted to anything. It sits on to 2″ x 4″ x 8′ “sleds”. The sign can be moved around to almost anywhere the customer would like to position the sign. Thus, the sign isn’t mounted. The actual footprint is just under 8′ so there is almost no chance a gust of wind will tip this sign.  We also used 4″ x 4″ for the legs, frame and supports making sure that this sign isn’t going anywhere.  Even during the current lumber shortage, we decided to use ground contact lumber. Ground contact lumber is treated so water doesn’t break down the wood.  We then painted the wood to give it a professional finish.  If you look in the background, there is another sign for one of the discount dealerships in the area and you can see how low budget the other sign looks. It isn’t finished, the supports were added as an afterthought and the banners on the face of the signs are already torn.  Not exactly the message a dealership wants to send to their customers.

If you need a temporary or a permanent sign, give us a call. We would love to help you deliver the correct message to your customers. Optimum Signs can handle everything from vehicle graphics and car wraps to channel letters and monument signs.  Please give us a call at 262.289.9481 or email us at info@optimumsignswi.com.
