Now this is a story! It was both one of the most efficient and difficult jobs we have had in a long time. But lets start with our customer: American Society of Gene & Cell Therapy. The American Society of Gene & Cell Therapy (ASGCT) is the primary membership organization for scientists, physicians, professionals, and patient advocates involved in gene and cell therapy. Their mission is to advance knowledge, awareness, and education leading to discovery and clinical application of gene and cell therapies to alleviate disease—they do that by serving as a catalyst to transform medicine by advancing gene and cell therapies to benefit patients and society. WOW! That says a lot. Plus, they are great people to work with.
We started with the municipality as this is a 6 story building in a highly visible area. We presented our design and all the details to the design review board and in 15 minutes we had our permit. Now the design went to our fabrication people. The logo for the design is just over 50″ tall with the entire sign measuring just over 28′ wide. The raceway, the part of the sign that hldes the wires and the power supplies, was painted to match the building so from the ground you really can’t see it. The faces are made from polycarbonate PVC to ensure a long life. The returns, the part of the sign that makes up each letter was fabricated out of aluminum and painted black so that the only part of the sign that you see are the faces. Equally important are the LED’s that light the sign. We use Hanley exterior grade LED’s. These LED’s are one of the truest white LED’s on the market without the light being harsh. We have tried other LED’s but the Hanley brand has stood up the best. Of course any electric sign is only as good as the wiring connections. We use a process that fuses the wires together and then places a weather proof sleeve over the connection. This takes a little longer to complete the installation, but the connections will almost never fail.
