This past summer, we were hired to design, build and install a custom lobby sign for the software giant PUBG. They were in the process of building out a new office in Madison, Wisconsin, and they wanted something that really stood out. They wanted to copy the design of the sign that hangs on the wall of the world headquarters in Seoul, Korea, but couldn’t get the designs. It seemed that the HQ wanted to keep their sign to themselves!
We started with a photo of the sign that they wanted to copy and a layout of the new office wall that they wanted this sign mounted to. Our graphic designers took both and came up with a drawing that would copy the original sign. The push through acrylic was the easy part of this sign. The challenge lied with the customers desire that we use translucent acrylic. They wanted the acrylic portion of the sign to appear cloudy when not lit. They also wanted the sign to radiate a bright and brilliant yellow when lit up. Because we have done many signs like this, we knew exactly what we needed to do. Once the customer signed off on the design, our fabricators went to work.
Because we were dealing with new construction, we were able to give the specs of the sign to the construction crew so they knew how deep the sign was. This allowed them to build a custom box on the wall for the sign to sit inside of. They also were able to locate power exactly were we needed it. As soon as the sign box came out of the paint booth, we knew we had something special. The deep bronze gave the sign a very regal appearance. And once we mounted the push through acrylic and lit the sign, we were truly amazed at how beautiful the sign presented.
This sign took us from concept to installation a little over 4 months to complete. Considering that we had multiple levels of approval to gather, I thought this went well.
