Recently we started working for the Hilton Corporation on a number of their Hampton Inn & Suites locations. The entry ways to all of their locations had a design that incoroporated the shape of their logo (in miniture) repeated randomly across the glass doors. The design used an etched glass vinyl. Every so often, they change the pattern. This location hadn’t changed the pattern since they opened about 8 years ago. We were asked to remove the old design, clean up the 16 panes of glass, and apply the new design. Overall, not too bad. The removal process took the majority of a day as each logo had to be scrapped and removed with a dental pick. It took two people 8 hours to remove and clean the glass. The new design was applied to the inside of the glass so other than having to work around customers coming and going, it was pretty straight forward. The new design (shown above) is much more random but again used etched glass vinyl. The company used a very aggressive application tape so we had to fight with the backer paper to separate the cut vinyl from the application tape. The application of the new design took just over 4 hours while the removal took 16 hours (2 people x 8 hours).
One of the cautions we offer on glass door designs is to remember that people like to be able to see through the door to the other side. Human nature wants to see what is on the other side of the door before we walk in. The same thing applies to printed door decals.
