Polka Dots everywhere! Our latest job was for Corvisa in downtown Milwaukee. Corvisa provides cloud communications to business customer around the world and everything that moves through the company has the logo adhered to it. And the amount of business that they do requires a great number of decals.
We started off with the company logo and ran a few test prints to ensure that we had the colors exactly correct. With that done, it was time to decide on the best media to print these on. We definitely wanted to use a gloss material as the decal needs to be the center of attention. 3M’s IJ35C was the right product for this. We printed 500 of the 4.5″ and 1″ decals. There were more than a few times that our eyes started to cross looking at all these polka dots. Because the decals are attached to everything, we decided to laminate the print to ensure the durability and appearance of the colors. Now the fun starts. We ran the prints through our Graphtec optical cutter to punch cut each polka dot. When we punch cut a print, we aren’t cutting all the way through, just deep enough that the decal will release from the vinyl but not deep enough that we can’t finish the decals. We really thought that we were going to kill the cutter with the number of cuts we were asking it to complete, but within a couple of hours all the polka dots where cut. Next we tabled the prints and removed all the additional vinyl that surrounded the polka dots, even the tiny 1″ decals. That took some time. Once we completed that, we applied application tape so that the customer could peel the decal, place the decal, then remove the tape and apply the decal perfectly.
