We have found that when most companies remodel the one area that gets the least amount of attention is the parking lot. Businesses can add to their image by having an effective wayfinder system in place so customers can clearly and easily know where they are going. The great thing about an effective system is that it doesn’t have to be complex or expensive.
When our friends at Heiser Ford asked us to take a look at their wayfinder system we found an effective system that had become outdated. Plus we were asked to add “Customer Only Parking” signs. Since the body shop had closed, the addition of customer only parking, and customer appraisal parking, the system needed serious updating. We started with the existing signs. The placement and height of the signs was good so we didn’t have to make any changes there. The faces of the signs were a painted PVC with painted lettering. Not exactly the most effective way to deliver a message. We decided to replace the faces with high impact PVC. We used black because we wanted the sign to stand out and not a white background. Then we wrapped the PVC with Avery Dennison’s SW900 Metallic Silver Supreme Wrapping film. This product is great for outdoor applications as the color runs throughout the material which prevents fading. The lettering was done by printing our message and matching the blue that we have used throughout the dealership. Now the parking lot signs match the banners and the parking signs and everything else. It delivers a great look.
The parking signs were to be mounted on the building which meant that we could use a rectangular sign where a sign that is mounted to a post or anything not flush mounted, needs to have rounded corners. Again we matched the blue that we used in all the other signs around the dealership. By laminating the face of the signs, they will not fade, crack or peel.
All of the sign faces are mounted to the frame or building using 3M’s heavy duty exterior grade adhesive tape. The tape causes a chemical bond between the sign and the mount/building that almost nothing will break.
