Many times companies buy floor directories because of a certain look or maybe even that they fit a budget. Not often is a deciding factor how easy it is to upgrade the look of the directory. When Optimum Signs was called in, JLL Property Management had just completed the purchase of a new office building and the floor directories were in bad shape. Such bad shape the former owner had decided to print the tenants names on copy paper and place them in the signs. Copy paper?
When we got on site, we noticed that the frames were in excellent shape. By removing the acrylic protectors over each of the tenants name and the floor indicators and measuring them, we were able to set the correct measurements of each piece. Now the hard part. What should the background look like? A pattern? The prior signs looked like the 1970’s threw up on them so we wanted to give our customer a modern design. Nothing is hotter right now for interior, directory signs as brushed aluminum vinyl. The product gives a very rich look and allows us to print on the surface. Low end user cost and easy to change when a tenant leaves or a new one moves in definitely helps.
We started with Avery Dennison’s Supreme Wrapping Film as this product is one of the best made especially for the extreme texture that we were looking to create. The film worked perfectly and when we printed on it, we realized that if we backed the amount of black ink down, we could still catch the texture through the black ink. It really looks like the strips are brushed aluminum with an engraved finish.
After we installed the new floor directories our customer commented that it looks like real aluminum. They were very happy with the finished product, so much so that they asked us to replace the directory on the main floor which is being held together with black electrician’s tape! Yikes. But that is another story.
