La Quinta Inns just purchased a new Transit van to shuttle their customers to the airport from their hotel as the old one stopped working. The new van arrived on schedule and was ready to place into service. Only one problem: The van had no graphics or any way to distinguish it from the fleet of other hotels vans that wait for customers. The paper sign in the front window really didn’t do the trick and the company that normally did vehicles for this group was backed up 2 weeks. This could be a problem.
When the national company that manages the fleet for La Quinta Inn’s, he only had one request. The van had to be done within 4 days as they were approaching one of the busiest travel weekends of the year. Given that the design included over 30′ of perforated window film and a full production board, this was going to get interesting. We had a small window in our install calendar that we would be able to get this done as long as everything went perfect. The morning that the van showed up, it was a beautiful 79 degrees with 100% humidity and pouring rain. We pulled the van inside and promptly dried off the entire van. Our crew decided to let the van sit for an hour to make sure we didn’t have any water issues. During that time they laid out the graphics and began to measure the van. One thing that we noticed immediately was that the graphics package was deigned for a much smaller van, almost two feet shorter. This turned out not to be a problem as the graphics kit had well over 30′ of perforated window film. That was good. It was also bad as trying to apply a 30′ panel of window perf in one sheet was a bit of a challenge. Definitely one that our installers were up to. The film went on perfectly. We also found that by placing the graphics that ran around the window first, it allowed us to make adjustments for the van being a little bit on the long side. The rest of the graphics went on perfectly and we finished within 3 hours.
This was a really nice install as the graphics kit was complete and the design was very well thought out. Even to include enough perforated window film to accommodate a vehicle that was an extra 2′ long.
