Recently we were contacted to assist a national sign company with a local install for AIT Worldwide Logistics. The details were straight forward: 2 lobby signs, a wall decal, 5 window decals and a glass door. Everything would be delivered via UPS and ready for install.
On the day of install we showed up early and began by washing down all the windows with clean water and isopropyl alcohol to make sure that there was nothing to prevent a perfect install. As we were laying out the window decals we noticed that the measurements of the decals was off slightly. It was enough to cause a few slight adjustments. As this was an install that we were functioning as the installer, we followed the blueprint and called for permission to make the necessary adjustments. It was only .5″ top to bottom but it was enough to call it in. After getting the permission to go ahead, we made the necessary changes. The windows went very quick as out two installers are the best in the business! The two doors were different as one was a steel door and the other glass. The back door (steel door) required a little extra work as the decal was two layers of cut vinyl with the top layer being a heavy brushed aluminum. The decal looked incredible. The glass door went together quickly and without a hitch as we installed the different layers.
Next we moved inside to install the two lobby signs and the wall graphics. Wiping down the walls with alcohol to make sure that nothing was going to interfere with the adhesive was the final step in preparing the walls. One of the toughest questions we ask is does our customer want the sign installed perfectly level to the bubble or line of sight. The bubble refers to the bubble of a level and line of sight is by sight. You would be surprised how many buildings are completely out of square. Ceilings are the largest culprit to contributing to rooms that aren’t square. When we install lobby signs that are custom cut foam with aluminum accents we work completely off of the template. We measure the wall, determine the appropriate height of the sign, find our center, then work outwards from there. Simple math and geometry ensures that each letter is aligned correctly. By pressing and holding each piece for no less than 30 seconds ensures a solid bond.
