Within the Milwaukee community, there are some people that really go out of their way to make a difference in our society and Compost Crusaders are some of those people. The company's objective is to assist restaurants reclaim the food that they normally throw away. This reduces landfill and helps provide a nutrient rich fertilizer.
When Melissa contacted us, she had just purchased a 24' garbage truck and outfitted it with special equipment to help pick up the food collection dumpster that their customers use. Our mission was pretty simple - outfit the vehicle to comply with DOT standards and make sure that everyone knew who they were. We started out with their logo. Natural greens and pastel yellow provided a nice color contrast but provided a very soft design. Our designers played with multiple background colors that would help the logo really stand out. We decided on white as the background color because it matched the truck and helped the logo stand out. We used IJ35C from 3M which is a very good utility film. This film will wear very well and many years from now will look as good as it does today. Then we laminated the sign and applied the vinyl to a standard piece of 3mm alumiCore (two pieces of aluminum with a PVC center). These signs are sturdy and look very nice and will not show the effects of the weather.
The install posed an interesting challenge. The side walls of the truck are almost 1/2" thick steel. Very thick, very hard. So to mount the signs we had to use industrial self tapping screws which worked very nicely and secured the signs to the exterior frame of the truck. We added the necessary DOT information and a logo near the back of the truck and we were done. Another success for Optimum Signs and our customer, Compost Crusaders.
