Current Electric was looking for a new supplier for their signage for the development portion of their business. So after spending time online searching for a sign company, they came across Optimum Signs. And that is where the story begins.
Our first contact with Current Electric was an online submission form that they completed via our website. Imagine their surprise when we called them within 30 minutes of submitting the form! When we talked to them about what they were trying to accomplish, it was clear that we had three issues we had to provide a solution for. They were: high quality sign material; cost effective; and a very short delivery window.
Our first discussion took place on Thursday afternoon. We discussed what they were expecting and how the sign was going to be used. How long did it have to last? How were they going to mount the sign? We determined that a simple panel and post sign printed on MDO laminated plywood would do the trick. We explained that we only use treated, primed and painted 1/2″ MDO for these types of signs. It ensures that the sign will weather well especially when placed outside in the lovely Wisconsin weather. We also determined that we needed a laminated face on both sides as this sign will be in place for 60-90 days.
To address the cost effectiveness of our solution we talked about the material we use won’t absorb water as all the edges are treated, primed and painted. Plus, we can peel the vinyl off the faces because we use an MDO board that has a finished face. When we remove the vinyl it doesn’t peel away the surface of the board. Multiple uses of the board bring reduced cost.
Finally, the short delivery window. It turns out that they needed the signs the following afternoon. Oh boy. After consulting with our production people, we found a way to squeeze the printing of the signs in between two jobs that were scheduled to run first thing Friday morning. A little time with a table saw to cut down the MDO and we have two two-sided post and panel signs delivered to our customer right after noon.
When we delivered the signs, all that they could say is that they didn’t really expect to see us and that the signs were really heavy. That’s the difference between a cheap sign and a cost effective sign.
