We are sure you have seen them – cars, trucks, and vans driving around your neighborhood or down the highway, covered in advertising from top to bottom. Nope, its most likely not paint that created those custom vehicle graphics. It is most likely a vehicle wrap, which is basically a huge decal or sticker, custom printed with your graphics and then carefully installed on your vehicle.
Vehicle wraps for advertising purposes fall into two basic categories: Full Wraps, and Partial Wraps.
Full Vehicle Wrap
A full vehicle wrap covers your entire vehicle from end to end, and may include bumpers, roof, mirrors, and perforated window film on your rear windows. A full vehicle wrap provides the highest impact and most dramatic marketing image. Full vehicle wraps are made by printing your image on special high-performance, adhesive-backed vinyl which is then sealed with a protective UV laminate film. This ensures your vehicle wrap will last for several years and protects your investment. Expert vehicle wrap installers then apply this custom decal to your car, carefully stretching and placing it in all the proper grooves and contours.
Partial vehicle wraps do not cover the entire vehicle, but rather just parts of the car.
Partial Wrap
Some things to consider when trying to decide between a partial wrap vs. a full wrap are:
1. Budget:Â A partial wrap uses less material than a full wrap, and takes less time to install. So, the overall price of a partial wrap is typically much less than the cost of a full vehicle wrap.
2. Design: for a partial wrap to work well, the base color of the car needs to seamlessly integrate into the overall design of the wrap. A car with a base color that is not complementary to the wrap design and colors usually isn’t worth the compromise on cost.
3. Ghosting: ghosting is what happens to a car with a partial wrap when the base paint of the vehicle that is not covered fades faster than the paint that is covered. When the wrap is removed, there may be a slight discoloration in the vehicle’s paint. This is more of a concern if you plan to leave the wrap on your car for several years, than it is for a wrap that may only be on for a year or two. Also, vehicles left outside in intense sun everyday are at more risk than those that are not.
