Wall and window graphics are an innovative signage option to create dynamic and visually striking spaces. Whether you use them in a store or an office, they are a great way to spruce up the environment. However, to keep their pristine appearance, you need to ensure proper care and maintenance.
Ideally, you should follow the cleaning routine suggested by your signage expert so that you don’t end up causing any damage to the surrounding wall and decal material. However, here are some maintenance tips that can help you.
Revisit the Placement
The appearance and longevity of wall and window graphics are greatly impacted by where they are placed. If you place them outdoors with direct exposure to sunlight, you won’t be able to preserve its color for long.
Similarly, fluctuating temperatures affect their appearance as well as cause their adhesive to deteriorate. Consider using them indoors but be sure to keep them away from heating appliances, electric equipment, and HVAC vents that generate heat.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Follow these steps to maintain your wall and window graphics:
- Remove any accumulated dust using a duster. You may need to clean the surfaces multiple times if it’s placed near the ground or ina high-traffic area.
- Use a fairly mild solution that consists ofone-part soap and 100 parts water and a clean, soft cloth to carefully wash the graphics. Begin from the top of the wall and use a horizontal motion, working your way down the wall. Adopting this approach will prevent dirty water from flowing down the areas you have already cleaned.
- Obtain another clean cloth, wash it, and rinse the wall to eliminate the soap. Don’t forget to squeezeout the water from the cloth before rinsing so that the decals and the wall don’t get too wet.
A squeegee should be more useful in the case of larger walls. Use the same guidelines above when using it but be gentle or you may rip the graphics. Also, avoid using a squeegee if your decals comprise of delicate materials like gold leaf.
How often you should clean your wall and window graphics will depend on how rapidly it gets dirty. Set up a care schedule after observing how quickly dirt and dust begin to collect on the walls.
Make sure that the debris is cleaned early on because it becomes hard to clean it later on when the graphics become too dirty.
When cleaning window graphics, don’t forget to handwash the entire window too. The decals are to be cleaned using the same steps mentioned above. However, you can use a hose to rinse the decals. When you are using a hose, make sure to use it from a distance with mild water pressure.
