Being a successful realtor takes more effort than simply sitting in an office waiting for a client to call you. First, there needs to be a simple plan on how you will find customers, where those customers are, and convince them you are the best option for selling their house. Now in the 21st century, there are many ways to attract customers, but you must be strategic about it. For example, it is simple to put a post on IG about a house you are trying to sell, but if the right people are not seeing it, then it does not matter.

Below we will discuss the elements necessary in a strategic plan and why plans are essential.

Why are strategic plans important for a realtor?

Being a realtor is often compared to being an entrepreneur because you are most of the time on your own. Working with a brokerage will provide you with the cover, but this does not mean you do not still have to put in work. So when being a realtor, you need to have a plan of action. You need to understand how you will stand out in an oversaturated market. Why are you better than others, and how will you showcase this to potential buyers? So just like anything in life, when you do not have a plan, you will find yourself running in several different directions all leading you down the wrong path. If you have a plan from the beginning, even though success is not guaranteed without adequate effort, your chances for success dramatically rise because now you have a clear path in front of you.

What should be in your strategic plan

A strategic plan must have several things within it to be well-structured. Those things include:

  • Marketing strategy
  • Target audience
  • Brand awareness
  • Goals
  • Timeline

Each attribute clarifies how you will get people’s attention, who you want to see, and how long you wish to remain on this current plan. Without a marketing strategy, how will people know about you? If you do not have goals, what are you aiming to accomplish? These things keep you going down a clear path instead of having to figure it out along the way. Of course, plans may need to get changed over time, and things need to be looked at again and revised, but if you have these attributes in your plan, you are setting yourself up for success.
