Most importantly, you need to know what the sign codes are for your area. Every city and county has their own signage regulations, but most base how big your sign can be on how big your building is. Many areas offer a minimum allowance as well, so that even if you only have ten feet of store front, you can still have an “x” size sign. Once you know your sign allowance, you need to think about the average distance that your sign will be viewed from. For text to be easily read, it should have at least one inch of letter height for every ten feet of viewing distance. Colors are also important but that is a topic for another post.
