For $1,000 let’s say I fix a roof that could last me 15 years.
For $1,800 I can fix a roof that could last me 25 years.
Let’s break this down to cost per year.
$1,000 / 15 years = $66.67 per year
$1,800 / 25 years = $72 per year
So in this case putting more money into the roof could get you a roof for longer but you’re probably better off just paying the $1,000 since the cost per year is less than the cost per year if you paid $1,800.
When it comes to flat roofs you need to be able to look at all aspects of the deal in order to know which one is the best option for you. Many times a roofing company will push the best possible material and make you think that it’s a great deal but it’s going to be more expensive and yet the exact same thing as the other roof material but the price is different because of the longevity.
Of course not having to worry about your roof or an additional 10 years might be worth the extra money, its totally up to you. There is no right or wrong answer but when you buy a new roof or you’re replacing an old, always consider the price, the longevity, and the ease of maintenance.
