It all comes down to what you prefer but I would say in every way a flat roof is better than a sloped roof.
Think about it if you had a house you were limited to the space on the inside of the house. If you talk to a Realtor they will probably tell you the square footage of the house but most people never bother to find out what is the square footage of the entire property. they assume there is a backyard and a backyard is either big or small, functional or not, but that’s about it.
How flat roofs increase the square footage of your house
Here in Texas or Louisiana most of us don’t think about the roof being a space of the house that can be useful and have benefits. If the walls around the roof extend up to where you wouldn’t worry about falling off of the roof then you could actually use the entire roof for things that could benefit you.
We see this kind of thing in movies or when we go to places like New York and they show the villain or the hero jumping from one rooftop to the other if you notice carefully they’re not jumping from One commercial property to another but simply from one property to the other.
An additional 1000 to 1500 square feet added to your house
It’s true that a flat roof would not increase the living area of your house but it would increase the area that you can use. Some of the ideas that you could use the flat roof area for making a sitting area with a barbecue pit. Traditionally you would put that in the backyard but why not put it on top of the roof. You could still set it up and have it look nice even if you’re looking from the bottom. But now you just created an entire deck for yourself by simply using the space you already had.
