Expert Time Management Advice for Executives

BY: ,
Being an executive could lead the busiest life imaginable. More responsibility can mean more time dedicated to your role. As a result, the ability to manage time becomes a task within itself. But there are common things to work on to improve this issue. As a business coach, I can point executives in the right direction. I’ll go over a few key ideas executives can start making improvements today. Developing what your goals are Time management plays a big part in goal setting because upon determining your goals, you’ll have a better idea of how to divide your time. Always set weekly and monthly goals to achieve and divide your days amongst the goals based on urgency and importance. Ask yourself which goals will take the most time, which goals are the most urgent, and will goals are the most mandatory to meet. You can divide your time in ways considered most efficient and productive. Delegating tasks efficiently For some, this can be a difficult thing to do, but given the number of functions executives oversee, executives need to delegate tasks to others. Sort out any tasks with the capacity to be completed by a skilled person without the presence or approval of an executive. Those tasks should be delegated to others and as an executive be sure to focus on tasks requiring your immediate attention. Finding the right person to carry out these tasks on an executive’s behalf is essential. Make sure proper resources are in place for these people to carry out their responsibilities. Delegating tasks means executives can quickly free up time to handle more important tasks or to take back some more time in their day when it’s easier to manage. Considering what ongoing and periodic tasks able to be delegated as an executive can save time either way. Meetings, emails, and other distractions Let’s have some honesty here. In the corporate world, meetings can get a bit excessive. And if not too frequently, then it could be too long. Productivity always takes a dive when companies make every instance of communication into a meeting. As an executive, it is wise to make a decision on these occurrences. It would be best to attend mandatory meetings and any meetings an executive benefits from attending. When it comes to emails, here’s an important piece of advice. Set a time interval every day to maintain the inbox and use the remainder of the day for urgent emails only. If not, an executive could find themselves in their inbox all day, taking time away from other important things. We all know what other distractions can take time out of the day and truth be told many people could be better with it. The most common other distraction is the smartphone. No matter what position a person holds, we are all guilty of it. Let’s work on how often we are distracted by this and other chatty colleagues. Time management is an ongoing process  Managing the busy executive life is something they’ll have to always make adjustments on. However, utilize the help of a business coach capable of getting the schedule back on track.
